I have a high school reunion in 3 months and want to wow everyone with my looks!

Question:
I have a high school reunion in 3 months and want to wow everyone with my looks! For this reason I plan on getting a nose job, but am concerned about the recovery time. How long do I need to wait until my nose is completely healed and looks normal?

Answer:
Your nose should look normal in as few as 3 weeks following a rhinoplasty. It will not be completely healed and reduced of swelling for 6 months to one year however. There are many factors which affect healing and a better estimate as to your individual healing time could be obtained at your consultation.

I am a 73 year old woman interested in a facelift.

Question:
I am a 73 year old woman interested in a facelift. I am in pretty good health and take care of myself as best as I can. Would I be a good candidate for this surgery or am I too old?

Answer:
Age is not the determining factor for candidacy for a facelift. The patient needs to have a degree of aging and understanding of the expected results of the procedure and they need to be in good health. I have performed a facelift on a healthy 83 year old patient and I have turned away 50 year old patients because of their health. Bottom line is that if you are reasonably healthy and motivated as such, 73 is certainly not too old.

I have noticed many spider veins in my face, mostly along my hair line.

Filed under: Fraxel Laser,Spider Viens — admin @ 9:24 am

Question:
I have noticed many spider veins in my face, mostly along my hair line. Could you please describe to me a facial spider vein treatment?

Answer:
Facial spider veins are enlarged capillaries in the skin. Usually we use a vascular laser to treat these areas. There are a few different lasers including IPL/Fotofacial, pulsed dye, and KTP which can be used. The choice of laser depends on the individual patient and is selected following the consult.

What exactly is dermabrasion?

Filed under: Fraxel Laser,Laser Dermabrasion — admin @ 6:31 pm

Question:
What exactly is dermabrasion? Is there a certain skin type that would benefit the most from this procedure?

Answer:
Dermabrasion is a procedure where a rough tool is used to resurface the skin. Oddly enough even sterile sand-paper has been described as a tool for this procedure. More commonly, and in our practice, we use a power instrument to perform the skin “sanding”. The process is much like any other kind of resurfacing where the outer layers of the skin are removed in order to offer improvement in wrinkling or scarring. The procedure is mostly used for discrete areas of the face and should be used mostly in people with lighter skin color as loss of pigmentation can be a side-effect of the procedure.

I’ve recently come across an injectable called Sculptra. What exactly is it?

Filed under: Injectables — admin @ 2:27 pm

Question:
I’ve recently come across an injectable called Sculptra. What exactly is it?

Answer:
Scluptra is poly-L lactic acid. That is a synthetic material that has been used in suture for many years. Sculptra takes the same substance and makes it into a fine powder that is then mixed with saline and injected. Sculptra works by encouraging your body to generate collagen around the particles therefore plumping up the areas that have been injected. The results last between 2 and 5 years. Sculptra is most useful for facial volume loss in a patient who is looking to have a non-surgical treatment. Sculptra injections are performed in the office with local anesthesia in about 15 minutes. You will see an immediate plumping of the face that will then disappear over 3 days. Then over 4-6 weeks your body will build up collagen around the particles yielding the result. It usually takes 2-3 sessions to achieve a patients aesthetic goals.
