What’s an ethnic blepharoplasty?

Filed under: Ethnic Blepharoplasty — Dr. Edward D. Buckingham, M.D. @ 10:17 am

Question:
I recently came across the term ethnic blepharoplasty. Can you explain what this is? I’m Asian and interested in getting a more Westernized look to my eyes. Would this be ethnic blepharoplasty?

Answer:
An ethnic blepharoplasty is a generic term and may be used to describe what you are looking for, but not necessarily. Usually the description used to describe your case is exactly what you said, Westernization. I usually do not recommend that procedure, however as it does not yield a natural result. Usually with eastern background the procedure desired is to create a crease in the upper eyelid. In my opinion this should be done to create a crease that still appears natural to that culture.
