Browlift vs. Botox for forehead wrinkles

Filed under: Facial Wrinkles — Dr. Edward D. Buckingham, M.D. @ 10:24 am

Question:
When I raise my eyebrows, I get deep horizontal wrinkles on my forehead. Most of the time they are not quite as deep but are still very noticeable. Can Botox be used to smooth these wrinkles or is a browlift recommended?

Answer:
Botox is the treatment of choice for forehead wrinkles that are caused by muscle contraction. It will not do much to improve lines that are also there at rest although it is still a necessary part of the treatment. For lines at rest a skin resurfacing with a chemical peel or laser may also be necessary. A brow lift may also be used, but its primary purpose is to elevate the brow and not to assist with forehead lines. If the brow is low, however a brow lift will improve forehead lines.
