Endoscopic Forehead and Midfacial Surgery

Often the first signs of aging occur around the forehead, cheek and eyelid region. For some, a simple eyelid procedure is all that is necessary. However, in many individuals the tired appearance of the eyes is contributed to by descent of the forehead, brow and cheek tissues.
In the past, brow surgery meant a long incision that went from ear to ear across the scalp. Patients experienced a prolonged convalescence that included oftentimes a year or more of numbness that could last indefinitely. Loss of hair and scarring could arise along the lengthy incision. Endoscopic surgery has provided a natural method of lifting the brow with only a few, short incisions. Now that brow-lift surgery has reached a very advanced state, the brow can be restored in a natural and pleasing way without notable downtime. Additionally, the startled look of previous attempts at brow surgery will not occur with Dr. Buckingham's technique.
Forehead and Brow Lift
As aging occurs one of the first areas affected is the eyes and tissues surrounding the eyes. This leads to a tired appearance and may even produce a feeling of tiredness as the forehead weighs on the upper eyelids causing excess folds of skin. A brow lift can reverse this feeling and appearance of fatigue by elevating the tissue over the eyes to its more youthful position thereby relieving the heaviness, leading to a bright, youthful, more rested look. To see what a forehead lift can do for your face, put your hands above your brows and outside the edges of your eyes and gently raise the skin upward. Dr. Buckingham performs this surgical procedure utilizing an endoscopic technique whereby a few small incisions are placed in the hair-bearing scalp, which minimizes and conceals the fine scars. Additionally, because he performs the procedure endoscopically, the swelling and bruising of the procedure is decreased, allowing a reduced recovery period.
Upper or Forehead Lift/Cheeklift
Often, in conjunction with the browlift as a comprehensive rejuvenation of the area around the eyes, Dr. Buckingham, who has been one of the innovators of endoscopic midfacial surgery, will recommend an upper facelift. Just as the brow descends over the upper part of the eye, the downward descent of the temple and cheek area leads to the dark circles and puffiness under the eyes due to loss of the youthful superior placement of the cheek tissue over the bony orbital rim. Through the same incisions as the brow lift, Dr. Buckingham has developed and mastered a unique, minimally invasive technique to restore this sagging cheek tissue to its more youthful position. Just like the endoscopic brow lift, this surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure and has a short recovery period of 7 to 10 days.
To determine if a patient is a good candidate for this procedure, Dr. Buckingham recommends a private patient consultation.
Dr. Buckingham feels that successful facial plastic surgery results from the development and maintenance of good rapport between the patient, the surgeon, and his staff during the consultation and future appointments. The consultation will include a complete facial analysis to determine the best procedure to bring about the desired results and all questions relating to the patient’s specific concerns will be addressed.
Prospective patients are encouraged to call the office to schedule an appointment at their earliest convenience.
Frequently Asked Forehead Lift Questions
Q - What is an endoscopic forehead lift?
An endoscopic forehead lift, also known as a browlift, is a surgical procedure that targets such facial imperfections as drooping eyebrows, frown lines, furrowed forehead lines, forehead creases and hooding over the eyes. The endoscopic technique is less invasive than the traditional forehead lift, requiring smaller incisions and resulting in an easier and shorter recovery. During surgery, the skin around the eyes is gently lifted, restoring a more youthful and lively appearance to the forehead and brow area. A forehead lift can either be performed alone or in combination with other procedures such as an upper or midfacial lift.
