Sculptra® is an FDA-approved injectable filler which restores facial volume loss due to the aging process. Sculptra® is comprised of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a synthetic material that is biocompatible and biodegradable and helps to replace lost collagen. The material is injected beneath the skin in small amounts using a very fine needle. Results are long lasting, natural and subtle as they occur gradually over time as new collagen regenerates.
Sculptra® is a simple in-office treatment which takes anywhere from fifteen to forty minutes to complete. For the patient’s comfort, a local or topical anesthetic may be used. As with other injectables, some swelling, redness or bruising may occur at the injection site. These side effects are typically minor and subside within several hours to several days. Bruising may be concealed with makeup. There is little to no downtime associated with treatment and most normal activities can be resumed immediately afterward. Massaging the treatment area may be necessary for several times a day during the first few days. Most patients require an average of three treatments spaced over several months, and the results of Sculptra® may last 2 years or longer. The results of Sculptra® are gradual. Patients will begin to see results starting six weeks after treatment and these results will continue over the next six months as the production of collagen takes place.
Dr. Buckingham recommends a private patient consultation to determine if Sculptra® is right for you. During the consultation, Dr. Buckingham will perform a complete facial analysis which will allow him to recommend the most appropriate procedure to meet your desired results.
