When performing a rhinoplasty, are implants used when the bridge of the nose needs to be built up?
There are several options for augmenting the dorsum of the nose. The preferred material in our opinion is the patient’s own cartilage derived or transferred from the same individual’s body. Septal cartilage is the first choice, but if none is available then rib cartilage either harvested from the patient or donated rib. If no other options are available then synthetic material may be used. Gortex is the material most often chosen.
