Question:
Are the results of a fat transfer permanent, or does it require regular maintenance every few years?
Answer:
No cosmetic procedure offers permanent results since we continue to age. A fat transfer does however offer the greatest degree of permanence of any procedure to date. When a fat transfer is performed, some of the injected fat does not survive and is reprocessed by the body. The fat that does survive, which is usually from 50-70% is essentially permanent. That means that you will be able to appreciate more fullness in the area of injection than if you had not had the procedure done likely for life. That does not mean that you will not continue to age and may not need further fat injected in the future. Fat transfer does not require regular maintenance and certainly not every few years. Fat does not survive very well in the peri-oral area however. It is useful in improving the peri-oral area by its lifting effect of the cheek and jawline, but fat is intended to restore areas of volume loss over the cheeks, bones encircling the eye, temples and jaw area. In this area, fat survives very well and provides excellent long lasting results. Please view our photo gallery for more description and results.
