Can you explain what Sculptra is, what it’s used to treat, and how long the results last?
Sculptra is poly-L lactic acid. It is the same substance that has been used in absorbable suture for many years. Sculptra is a powdered form of poly-L lactic acid that is then mixed with water and local anesthetic to form a suspension and then injected. It is used to treat areas of volume loss in the face ranging from the temples, to cheeks and jawline. Several injections are performed at about 1 month intervals. When the injection is performed you immediately see a result, but this is only due to the water which absorbs over a couple of days. Your body then builds collagen around the filler over the course of about 4-6 weeks. Once the desired volume is achieved the result will last at least 2 years and maybe as long as 4-5 years.
