Can you explain what the difference is between an incisionless ear surgery and an open ear surgery?
Incisionless ear surgery for ear shaping involves using needles to score the cartilage and then passing sutures under the skin to shape the ear. It is a well described surgery, but not really better in my opinion. That technique is more difficult to learn and has less predictable results. In my opinion, incisions should be avoided when the incision has a draw-back. The incision used for otoplasty is completely behind the ear and is usually invisible even when the ear is pulled forward. Therefore I don’t feel it makes sense to do incisionless surgery in this case.
