Does the facelift improve nasolabial folds and marionette lines?
A facelift will not improve the nasolabial folds long term. There have been many attempts to extend the facelift into that region, however none has been successful. The most successful long term improvement is possible with a fat transfer, but not because the fat is injected into the fold itself, but rather because the fat restores volume to the cheek region which lifts the fold. The marionette line is partially present as a result of decent of the jowl and is therefore improved with a facelift. The limitation of that however is that the corner of the mouth is not lifted and if an attempt to lift the corner of the mouth with the facelift is performed an unnatural result may occur. Usually patients are happy with the improvement from a facelift, but at times a filler may still need to be used to enhance the result.
