I’m a 57 year-old man and I’ve been considering getting a facelift. Since the facial skin is repositioned, how does this affect the appearance of the sideburns? How do you keep them from looking unnatural?
One of the side effects of medial facelift is repositioning of the beard. The sideburns are not really an issue as it is elevated nearly vertically however there is hair that is repositioned under portion of the earlobe and sometimes to a small extent behind the earlobe. A decision needs to be made whether to perform a pre- or post tragal incision. A post tragal incision will conceal more rapidly but if the beard is present and resultant hair growth on the front of the ear. In these patients a pre-tragal incision is necessary. In general the incisions can be placed to provide tolerable beard repositioning with good concealment of the incision.
