Bridget,
We do perform facial liposuction. It is done by a technique called microliposuction. We utilize an ultra-small 1.4 mm cannula which is inserted at different angles to the fat pad to be reduced. This allows for tunnels to be created through the fat pad and remove it in a smooth manner. The degree of improvement varies from patient to patient and depends upon how much of the facial feature is a result of fat accumulation and how much is due to bone structure. At times we may also add fat to the upper cheek region as we reduce the lower cheek region to create a more prominent cheek bone while reducing the “chipmunk” cheeks. If the cheek bone area is very small we may suggest cheek implants.
