How does a facelift differ from a mini facelift?
You have to be careful how you define terms in facial plastic surgery and different surgeons use different definitions. In our practice we use a variety of facelifting techniques depending on the individual needs. For patients who do not have very much laxity of their neck or excess fat accumulation we will perform what we refer to as a “limited incision facelift”. This is the same procedure that other physicians may refer to as a mini facelift. For patients that require more improvement in their neck we would advance the technique to include this region. Depending on how much lift we need to get we will also alter how we deal with the SMAS layer of the face. Often we will explain to the patient during the consultation the advantages and disadvantages of each procedure and make a decision with our patients as to which approach will meet their needs and expectations.
