Question:
I have a family history of skin cancer and I am screened often. How effective is a chemical peel in removing pre-cancerous cells from the skin?
Answer:
A chemical peel can be effective in removing pre-cancers, but I can’t answer the question as to how effective as that would take a scientific study. Most pre-cancers start at the basal layers of cells in the skin at the epidermal-dermal junction. As long as the peel goes deeper than this junction, it may be preventative. We certainly offer peels that go to this depth.
