Question:
How exactly is a chemical peel performed?
Answer:
There are many different types of chemical peels from very superficial to moderately deep. The superficial peels are performed in an office setting using a variety of solutions targeted to each patient’s needs. Deeper chemical peels are performed under IV sedation and will remove pigment irregularities and improve wrinkles. The deeper peels are performed by applying an appropriate acidic solution to the face until a change in the skin color indicates the desired depth. The healing from the superficial peels is minimal. The healing time from the deeper peels is from 10 days to weeks with a period of redness lasting longer, but which can be covered by makeup.
