Question:
For about how long do injectable fillers last? Is it safe to get continuous treatments?
Answer:
Injectable fillers last a variable amount of time based on the filler chosen, the location injected and the individual patient. Hyaluronic acid fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Restylane Lyft) tend to have the shortest longevity, but are also the most versatile and produce the softest result. The more mobile areas of the face have the shortest duration, therefore, the perioral area lasts between 6 months and a year while the peri-occular area lasts 12-18 months. Radiesse may last a little longer than the HA fillers, but is not a versatile. Sculptra has the best longevity amongst the syringe based fillers, but requires the most care to inject and requires multiple injections to achieve the desired result. We feel that the patient’s own fat is the most efficacious filler in many instances and definitely offers the greatest longevity. It does require sedation however and requires more recovery time.
