I am 19 years old and I want my ears pinned back permanently. Is this surgery done on an inpatient or outpatient basis? What exactly can I expect on the day of surgery?
We perform ear pinning, otoplasty, either in the office with local (injection) anesthesia and sedation orally (pills), or we offer an option to go to an outpatient surgery center and have IV sedation with local. Most if not all 19 year old patients tolerate the office setting very well and it can save the patient financially. The surgical outcome and post-operative course is the same in either case. The patient goes home the same day. Your surgery day will depend on which setting you choose, but in general you come in, get sedated, have your procedure and are home an hour later. An office follow-up is scheduled for the next day.
