Question:
I have dumbo-like ears and would like to have them fixed. How is this done and will the scars be very noticeable?
Answer:
Ear pinning, otoplasty, is performed by making an incision in the crease behind the ear so the scars are generally not visible at all. Once the incision is made the cartilage of the ear is exposed and sutures are used to bend the cartilage to make the fold which is usually absent and then set the conchal bowl of the ear back to further reduce the size of the ear. Once the shape has been altered the incision is sutured closed.
