I am 39 years old and have never worn much make-up nor have I ever been very concerned with my appearance. I guess I felt I always looked good just the way I am. Now I have noticed, and a couple people have commented on, the vertical lines in my forehead above my nose. I would like to get Botox injections to smooth those lines. Are the effects seen right away? Is Botox used regularly on other parts of the face?
The lines between your eyes are caused by repetitive muscle contraction. You are exactly correct that Botox is the treatment for those lines. Dysport is another muscle relaxant that works exactly the same as Botox. You will see a result from Botox or Dysport as soon as 1-2 days after your injection. The maximum effect may take up to a week. If your lines are “etched in”, ie. there even when you are not contracting the muscle then we sometimes recommend a filler such as Restylane to correct the rest of the line. Botox and Dysport are also used on forehead lines, crows feet (smile) lines around the eyes as well as in smaller quantities for lip lines and neck banding. There are other less common uses as well.
