Question:
Are there any non-surgical or less invasive procedures for improving sagging jowls?
Answer:
There are many different procedures available to improve sagging jowls. In fact, some would argue with good cause that the jowls don’t actually sag, but rather the surrounding bone and soft tissue recedes leading to the appearance of jowls. Therefore, it may be possible to either fill around the jowl using a combination of fillers or fat, reduce the size of the jowl with microliposuction or both. These procedures are useful however as the best alternative in a smaller sub-set of patients however and expectations must be appropriate. Luckily however there are a variety of surgical techniques, such as minimally invasive limited incision lower facelifts that useful to elevate the jowl. These procedures may be performed in the office with light oral sedation and local anesthesia. A consultation will allow a thorough review of the available procedures including risks, recovery and expected degree of improvement.
