I’ve recently come across an injectable called Sculptra. What exactly is it?
Scluptra is poly-L lactic acid. That is a synthetic material that has been used in suture for many years. Sculptra takes the same substance and makes it into a fine powder that is then mixed with saline and injected. Sculptra works by encouraging your body to generate collagen around the particles therefore plumping up the areas that have been injected. The results last between 2 and 5 years. Sculptra is most useful for facial volume loss in a patient who is looking to have a non-surgical treatment. Sculptra injections are performed in the office with local anesthesia in about 15 minutes. You will see an immediate plumping of the face that will then disappear over 3 days. Then over 4-6 weeks your body will build up collagen around the particles yielding the result. It usually takes 2-3 sessions to achieve a patients aesthetic goals.
