Question:
My oldest son is very uncomfortable with his lopsided ears, and complains about being teased constantly. What type of otoplasty surgery is used to correct uneven ears? Is it an invasive procedure or can it be done relatively easily?
Answer:
Asymmetric ears can be corrected through a surgical procedure referred to as an otoplasty. It is an outpatient procedure that takes about 45 minutes per side. If there is one normal side then only one side needs to be done to match the other. The procedure I use utilized sutures and cartilage weakening techniques. It is usually very successful. There are photos on this site which can give you more reference.
