Just when you think you’ve tried everything under the sun to prevent wrinkles, frown lines and delay the aging process, along comes a promising procedure that has skin experts enthusiastically looking at treatments in a new light.
It’s called Broadband Light (BBL) treatment and — these days — it is considered to be among the hottest advances in skincare technology. When used over long periods of time, researchers have found that Broadband Light treatments can dramatically improve the natural look and feel of your skin.
Come in from the Sun
Although most people can’t get enough of the sun and the warmth it brings to the body, scientists have long warned that its ultraviolet rays can dry areas of the skin and deplete natural lubricating oils beneath it.
But, now, advanced laser light — of all the ironies — has actually been proven to restore skin to an earlier age and correct imperfections when controlled and managed properly at lower levels than the sun emits. How cool is that?
More than one study has shown Broadband Light treatments to be both effective and safe. This treatment uses intense pulsed light to induce controlled wounds on the skin, prompting the derma to heal itself by creating new cells. It is sometimes referred to as photorejuvenation, a photofacial, or intense pulsed light (IPL).
Pretty Cool
Broadband Light treatment is known to reduce freckles and sun spots, red complexions, acne and facial scars, large pores and blemishes. By emitting photo-thermal energy deep under the surface of the skin, the layers above are allowed to absorb heat. The increased energy sparks collagen production, thereby reducing lines and wrinkles and, at the same time, targeting pigment to reduce redness, and sun and age spots.
Short, to the Point
Of course, each treatment is designed to meet the specific needs of each patient, and results may vary. Broadband Light treatments usually take 40 minutes at a time and can be performed at two-week intervals. The good news is you can expect to see results as soon as after your second visit to a cosmetic specialist.
Some patients, after initial Broadband Light treatments, may experience tightness or increased warmth as well as temporary changes to pigmentation or dry and flaky skin. These symptoms can last up to two weeks, but are no reason for concern.
What is important to remember is that Broadband Light treatments are not harmful, but they may leave your skin more susceptible to the sun’s ultraviolet rays than previously before. For this reason, it is always a good idea to wear sun-block lotions whenever you go outside, especially for long periods of time.
Get Under Your Skin
In the past, friends may have made mention to and new acquaintances immediately took notice of those skin imperfections – too many freckles, sun spots and wrinkles – that you were already well aware that you had. It’s good to know that treatment is available to get under your skin and improve your appearance.
