I’ve heard about otoplasty procedures in the past, but wasn’t exactly sure what they entail. What types of ear problems does otoplasty surgery fix?
Otoplasty literally means to re-shape the ear. Therefore any procedure accomplishing these goals might be referred to as an otoplasty. Most commonly though otoplasty is used to describe a procedure to bring prominent ears, ears that stick out, closer to the head. This is accomplished by making incisions behind the ear and adding sutures to re-shape the ear and bring it closer to the head.
