Question:
I’m from Austin and I’ve heard that even the best surgeons sometimes have cases that require revision rhinoplasty. What should a good surgeon’s revision rate be?
Answer:
There are good surgeons whose revision rates are as high as 5%. Revision rate is not necessarily a good way to judge a surgeon. In our practice, our minor revision rate (which is when we had just a rough edge on the bone that needs to be rasped and is a procedure that is performed in the office under local anesthesia) is about 3%. The number of times we take a patient back to the operating room and completely redo the surgery is less than 1%.
