Juvederm is an FDA-approved injectable filler used to treat facial lines and other skin imperfections. This treatment can improve the appearance of wrinkles, acne scars, deep folds and dark circles beneath the eyes, and it may be used to enhance the lips or contour facial features like the chin and cheeks. Juvederm is comprised of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance, and it comes in the form of a crystal-clear gel.
Candidates for Juvederm treatment are in good physical health and have realistic expectations for improving facial wrinkles and other skin imperfections. A private patient consultation with Dr. Buckingham is the best way to determine if Juvederm treatment is right for you.
During your consultation for Juvederm treatment, Dr. Buckingham will perform a complete facial analysis. This will allow him to determine if Juvederm is the best treatment to achieve your desired results or if another procedure may be better suited for you. He will address any questions or concerns that you may have about the Juvederm procedure or plastic surgery in general.
Juvederm treatments are typically performed in the office setting.
Prior to a Juvederm procedure a local injection or nerve block may be used for patient comfort. Topical anesthesia or local anesthesia mixed with the filler may be used. Different combinations will be used based upon the location for injection to achieve patient comfort.
Dr. Buckingham uses a very fine needle to inject the Juvederm gel into the skin in tiny amounts.
Juvederm treatment is a quick, simple treatment that typically takes no longer than thirty minutes to complete.
Juvederm treatment is a relatively painless procedure. Any discomfort that patients may experience is usually minor and short-lived.
The recovery period after a Juvederm procedure is minimal. There may possible side effects like redness, swelling and discomfort at the injection site which tend to subside within several days. Occasionally a bruise may present which may take several days to resolve.
Work and other normal activities can usually be resumed right after the Juvederm treatment. Some swelling can occur for several days after Juvederm is used for lip enhancement and some patients may want to take a day or so off from work.
The results of Juvederm last about six to nine months depending on the location. Under eye treatments can last a year or longer.
